A bill has been filed in the Georgia General Assembly to increase the compensation of Candler County School Board members by 150%.
State Representative Butch Parrish, a Swainsboro Republican, filed House Bill 96 in late January to increase the monthly salary of Board of Education members to $500 per month.
Current salaries for Board of Education members in Candler County are set at $200 per month, the Board Office said Monday. If passed, the new compensation would take effect the first month following the signature by the Governor, meaning it would impact the current Board of Education.
For comparison, school board salaries in neighboring counties and those in the same RESA district as Candler are as follows:

The increase would put board members at a higher rate of pay than any of the neighboring counties and equal to Liberty county, which has 6x the population.
