Darwin Lom, Mauricio Rancel, and Chanel Mosley all received recognition on the All-Gulf South Conference soccer teams, which the conference announced on Monday afternoon.
“They are all players who deserve being honored,” head men and women’s soccer coach Ben Birdsong stated. “Their work in practice and games has been invaluable and helped push the teams to new heights.”
Lom, a sophomore forward from Calhoun, Georgia, was named to the men’s soccer All-GSC First Team. He is Shorter’s leading goal scorer with 10 goals in 14 contests. In a September game against the North Georgia Nighthawks, which featured a combined 10 goals, Lom scored his first two goals of the season. He also recorded an assist against the Nighthawks, one of two he has thus far. In October, Lom led the Hawks past Spring Hill by scoring all three goals in a 3-2 victory.
Rancel, a senior from Venezuela, was named to the All-GSC Second Team. One of the captains for the men’s soccer team, he has played in 14 games and scored four goals to go along with two assists. Against Delta State, Rancel scored the game-winning goal in overtime.
Mosley, the sole Lady Hawk named to a women’s soccer All-GSC team, made the second team. A junior defender from Woodstock, Georgia, she has anchored the defensive line for Shorter, and received recognition from the Gulf South Conference for the third straight season.
This season, Mosley saw action in all 17 games and was second on the team in minutes played, recording over 1500. She scored her first goal in the season’s final game, a 2-2 draw against the Valdosta State Lady Blazers.
