Layson notches 100th career coaching win at Calhoun High School

The Calhoun Yellow Jackets basketball squad moved to 7-0 (5-0 region) with a 76-48 Christmas Tournament win over the Dragons of Pepperell in Rome at Georgia Highlands College on Saturday night, giving head coach Vince Layson career coaching victory number 100. In his fifth year as Calhoun’s head coach, Layson has racked up a coaching record of 100 wins and only 14 losses (.860%). He has managed to reach the century mark in wins quicker than any head basketball coach in CHS history.

The 63rd Annual Seven Hills Rotary Holiday Festival Basketball Tournament kicked off Saturday and featured Armuchee, Coosa, Darlington, Model, Pepperell, Rome, Woodland and Calhoun. The Jackets won the same tournament in 2015.

All games are played at Georgia Highlands College and Berry College with an off-day on Sunday. Monday play continues through the championship round Thursday.  Monday and Tuesday’s play will take place at GHC, with Wednesday and Thursday’s games taking place at Berry.

Fans who can’t make it to the games can listen on 95.7 FM The Ridge and WLAQ AM 1410.
