State Rep Refers to Georgia DPS Commissioner, Troopers as Klan Members in Social Media Post

A Georgia State Representative ignited the internet this week when she made a post on social media in which she shared two photos and referenced that the pictured law enforcement officials were Klan members.

State Representative Park Cannon, a Democrat from Atlanta posted on her public official Facebook page Tuesday  in response to the legislature’s approval of HB 838, which establishes a Peace Officers Bill of Rights under Georgia law. The measure passed the same day as the hate crimes legislation.

The pictures by Park showed a handful of state troopers and Colonel Gary Vowell of the Georgia Department of Public Safety with an excerpt about legislation to protect “those who kill us,” referencing law enforcement. Park also used the hashtag “KlanAtTheCapitol” and chastised the Troopers for sitting outside the House Chamber of the Capitol, which has been largely empty for the end of the legislative session for social distancing purposes.

As the post made its way around social media Thursday, Park deleted the post and began deleting and banning commenters who called on her to apologize to Vowell. Though she deleted the post, screenshots continued to circulate.

Story continues below.

Cannon, who lists herself as a health advocate and was elected in 2016, refused to comment to the Atlanta Journal Constitution Thursday but her colleagues in the legislature took her to task on the final days of the legislative session.

Senator Randy Robertson of Columbus spoke on her comments from the Well in the Senate Thursday and State Representative Vernon Jones followed suit on Friday.

State Senator Randy Robertson Calls for Public Apology from State Rep. Park Cannon

Today, I went to the well to call out blatant racism displayed by elected members of both chambers. I am now calling on State Rep. Park Cannon to issue a public apology to the Law Enforcement Officers who serve at our State Capitol for her horrific comments referring to them as members of the KKK.

A pendulum swings both ways. Remove her from office immediately!
This is a prime example of an uneducated individual not understanding she comes to that position with a party that helped found the KKK. Hilarious!
Like being a Democrat Park Cannon? 😂
Remove her from office immediately for inciting racism, violence to or intending to racially profile Law Enforcement Officials, inciting violence with grammar ( terroristic profiling), and endangering Law Enforcement Officers / Agencies.
She has to go! She’s an insider for these Marxist groups that are ruining our nation!
Start the investigation and get her gone!

It’s funny, the only people that are killing black people for no reason, are other black people. Clean your own community up and quit blaming others for poor parenting and poor upbringing of young blacks today!
