Armel Qualifies for City Council District 5 Special Election

On Tuesday, Don Armel qualified for the May 22nd special election for City Council District 5. The district 5 seat became open with the resignation of Travis Chance earlier this month. The Election will be held at the Pittman Park Voting precinct on the same day as the General Election Primary.

AllOnGeorgia will have more extensive profiles of each candidate for District 5 in the weeks to come.

from the Candidate’s website:

My name is Don Armel, and I am pleased to announce my candidacy for Statesboro City Council representing District 5.  Please allow me a few minutes to introduce myself and explain my positions on a few topics close to not only my heart, but to the hearts all of us interested in making Statesboro the best it can possibly be.  With the good of Statesboro’s residents in mind, my approach to every issue that may come before the city leadership will be guided by three keywords: Facts, Respect, Compassion.

  • Facts:  I believe that government cannot properly function when the representatives do not have all the facts they need to make an informed decision.  I will support initiatives to gather scientific and census data that is so essential to the Council’s ability to serve its residents. I will make my tenure as your representative one that is informed by science, reason, and a thorough evaluation of all facts available to the Council.
  • Respect: I believe strongly in the civil rights and liberties of all of Statesboro’s residents regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, religion or creed, age, disability, sexual orientation or gender expression, or country of origin.  I will work hard to make sure the Council respects these rights as well. All residents should feel that their Council will hear their concerns and give each due consideration. I will work to foster an environment that is open and accessible to all in our diverse population.
  • Compassion:  I believe an effective government must lead with compassion.  I try to live my life by the Golden Rule and humanist ethics of equality and empathy for all humankind.  I will serve the citizens of Statesboro guided by these same principles. I want Statesboro to be a welcoming place that fosters a culture of kindness and service to others.  It is this spirit of compassionate service that has motivated me to seek a seat on your City Council.

One of this guy’s Representatives just came to my door, I said no and shut the door. She knocks AGAIN and goes off telling me I was rude, I tried to tell her I am sick, but she was too busy fussing. I took the flyer so that I could contact this guy and she flipped me a BIRD!!! Wow!!! When I told her I was going to call my apartment security she walked off saying “oh, I’m so scared, call the police” this guy needs to rethink who he had representing him!!!
