The Joy of the Journey
A Life Well Lived
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
There are some lives that leave a mark not only on their family and friends but on eternity itself. My father lived such a life. This past week, we said our goodbyes to the earthly vessel that held the soul of my father. My dad served his country in the US Navy for nine years and was a Korean veteran. He was proud to serve his country.
Also, for more than four decades, he faithfully served the Lord in ministry. Through victories and challenges, seasons of abundance and seasons of sacrifice, he remained steadfast in his calling. He understood that ministry was never about titles, recognition, or personal gain; it was about loving Jesus and serving people. He preached the gospel, shepherded hearts, offered wisdom, and pointed countless people toward Christ.
His faithfulness extended far beyond the pulpit. For more than 66 years, he faithfully loved his bride. Their marriage was a testimony to God’s covenant love, a living picture of commitment, sacrifice, forgiveness, and enduring devotion. In a world where lifelong marriages are increasingly rare, theirs stood as a beacon of faithfulness and grace.
As a father, he lived the example of what he preached. He was a provider, protector, mentor, pastor, and friend. His four children never had to wonder where he stood. His life consistently reflected the values he taught. He modeled integrity, kindness, humility, and unwavering trust in God. His greatest desire was not merely that his family succeed in life, but that they know and follow Jesus.
It is written in Psalms 37:25: “I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread.” That verse describes much of my father’s journey. Throughout nearly a century of life, he witnessed God’s faithfulness again and again. He saw prayers answered, lives changed, and generations blessed by the goodness of the Lord. So, today, while our hearts feel the pain of separation, we rejoice in a greater reality. Heaven is not a wish, a dream, or a comforting story. Heaven is real. Jesus Himself in John 14:2, Inmy Father’s house are many rooms… I go to prepare a place for you.”
The place my father preached about for decades is now the place he calls home. The Savior he loved, served, and proclaimed is now the Savior he sees face to face. The Word of God proclaims to us, “To be away from the body and at home with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8
For those who know Christ, death is not the end of the story. It is the doorway into the presence of God. My father has not lost the battle; he has won the victory through Jesus Christ.
The book of Revelation paints a beautiful picture of his present reality: “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore.” Revelation 21:4 No more weakness. No more suffering. No more goodbyes. Only joy, peace, worship, and the presence of the King.
My father’s life reminds us that the greatest success is not measured by wealth, fame, or accomplishments, but by faithfulness. He loved God. He loved his family. He loved the church. He finished his race well.
What a legacy he leaves behind.
What a testimony he lived.
What a Savior he served.
And what a glorious reward he has received. In Matthew 25:23, Jesus says to the faithful, “Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your master.”
His life was…
A life well lived.
A race well run.
A faith well kept.
And now, heaven is his reward.
Knowing Jesus is all that matters!
