Deborah Devotions: The God on the Mountain is Still God in the Valley

“When you go through deep waters, I’ll be with you.” Isaiah 43:2

The God on the Mountain is Still God in the Valley

This summer, my family went on a 4-day cruise vacation. It was so much fun—and incredibly relaxing. It felt like a true escape from the distractions and the busyness of life. With no phone service, we all put our devices down (yes, even the kids—imagine that! Ha). It was a refreshing time to focus on each other without all the noise.

But, in true form and fashion, reality hit the very next day we got home. We were suddenly faced with a dying puppy, Brad’s broken tooth and a trip to the dentist, a wrecked Jeep (thankfully, the kids were unharmed), and some devastating news. It felt like we went straight from the mountaintop into the valley.

Yet in the middle of all the chaos, I was reminded of a truth: God uses the mountaintop to prepare us for the valley—and He uses the valley to refine us, so we can truly appreciate the mountaintop.

Just like vacation only lasts for a little while, so do the mountaintop experiences. But the valleys? They’re only for a season too. And in both places, God is still God.

My mom used to sing a song in church that had a line I’ve come to treasure more and more:
“The God on the mountain is still God in the valley.”

As I go through life, I’m learning to hold on tight to that truth. No matter the chaos. No matter the heartbreak. No matter the unexpected turns life throws at us—God is still sovereign, and God is still good.

He doesn’t change. He is constant when everything else is uncertain. And in Him, we find comfort, peace, and strength—whether we’re standing high on the mountain or walking through the deepest valley.

“When you go through deep waters, I’ll be with you.” Isaiah 43:2
