Obituary for Mr. James Wallace Powell

James “Jimmy” Wallace Powell age 73, of Chickamauga, Georgia went home to be with The Lord on Tuesday – September 15, 2020. He was born in Chickamauga to the late James Wallin and Florence Lucille Wallace Powell. He was a lifelong resident of Chickamauga and a graduate of Gordon Lee High School – Class of 1965. He worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington D.C., for two years, Crystal Springs Print Works in Chickamauga for thirty-five years, as a night instructor at Walker Technical College in Rock Spring, GA, for twenty-two years, and for the City of Chickamauga for twelve years as an administration assistant until he retired. He was a member of Kensington Church of God where he taught Sunday School, was on the men’s counsel and the church clerk. He served the City of Chickamauga and Walker County on several boards and committees; Chickamauga City School Board, Gordon Lee Alumni Association, City of Chickamauga Zoning and Planning Board, City of Chickamauga Voting Precinct, Secretary and Treasurer for the Walker County GOP, Georgia Republic Assembly, Founding member of the Georgia Transparency Coalition and the Advisory Board for Walker Technical College. Jimmy helped with writing and implementing computer programs for First Federal Savings and Loan Bank and the Walker County Water Board. Jimmy was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of forty-eight years: Dellaphyne Powell, their children: James Dale Powell, Charles Andrew (Tiffany) Powell, Lori (Bobby) Salmon all of Chickamauga, GA, grandchildren: Cynthia Henry, Cortlan Salmon, Braxton Salmon, Conner Salmon, Parker Salmon, Madisyne Powell, Douglas Powell, Lucas Powell and Brooklyn Salmon, several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm – Friday and Saturday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm – Sunday – September 20, 2020 at Noble Church of God with Pastors: Dennis Chambers and Jim Chasteen officiating. Burial will follow at Chickamauga Cemetery.
