Augusta gets past Rome 8-5 on wet night at State Mutual

A strong offensive start by Augusta was enough to put the game away early Friday night, and hand the Rome Braves an 8-5 loss at home. A two-run first, and five-run second inning was all the Greenjackets would need to beat the Braves, as Rome’s comeback efforts fell short on a damp night.

Seven of Augusta’s eight runs came off Rome’s Ricardo Sanchez who was yanked after 1.2 innings pitched, and even though the bullpen would only allow one additional score, the offense couldn’t make up the early deficit.
