Harbin Clinic Radiation Oncologist Dr. Matt Mumber recently served on a national panel tasked with helping patients diagnosed with potentially curable pancreatic cancer.

The American Society of Clinical Oncology, the largest oncology medical society in the world, convened the panel of national experts in medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, palliative care and advocacy to provide recommendations and draft a physician practice guideline for oncologists on potentially curative therapies for patients with localized pancreatic cancer.

“It was an honor to work on guidelines that will be used around the world in order to provide evidence based, high-quality care from the first visit to produce the highest level of outcomes for patients,” Dr. Mumber says.

According to the American Cancer Society, pancreatic cancer accounts for about three percent of all cancers in the US and about seven percent of cancer deaths.

Dr. Mumber helped work on drafting the guidelines, including an emphasis on maximizing supportive care for patients, including pancreatic cancer patients receiving palliative care.

Dr. Mumber is listed as a coauthor on the final paper, which was published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology in June.
