A two-year-old Georgia boy is dead after he found a gun in the family home and fired it, police say.
The incident happened Thursday after the child wandered into the bedroom where his father was asleep. The toddler reportedly located a loaded handgun under his father’s pillow. The weapon was dischaged and the child later died of a self-inflicted gunshot would.
The Clayton County Police Department says the father did not wake until the shot was fired. The child was transported to a local hospital, where he died.
The mother was also asleep at the time of the incident, but was in another room.
Both parents have been cooperating with law enforcement officials and no statement as been made on whether or not either, or both, will face charges.
