Chattooga Indian Head Coach Roone Gable told AllOnGeorgia he has hired Danny Wilson as Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator.
Wilson is a Hall of Fame coach in Tennessee with multiple state championships and has been Head Coach at Coahulla Creek for the past three seasons.
“This is a great hire for us,” Coach Gable said.
Coach Wilson is in his 6th year at Coahulla, 3rd as the Head Coach, and 36th year as a Science Teacher and Coach. Wilson graduated from Lipscomb University in 1987 and started his teaching and coaching career that fall under Tennessee Hall of Fame Coach Don Grider at South Pittsburg High School. Coach Grider retired in 1993 and handed the program over to Wilson. In the next four years, the Pirates went 46-7 and won the school’s first State Championship since 1969. In 1997, Wilson took the Head Football job at his alma mater, Heritage High School (Maryville, TN). In Wilson’s 3rd year, the Mountaineers put together their first winning season and trip to the playoffs in 16 years. In 2001, Wilson took the Defensive Coordinator job at Cleveland High School. Over the next four years, the Raiders held opponents to 11.3 ppg. In 2005, Wilson took over as the Raiders Head Coach leading them to 3 playoff appearences over the next 4 years. In 2009, Wilson returned to South Pittsburg as the Defensive Coordinator. In the next three years, the Pirates went 36-8 playing in the State Championship each year winning it in 2010. Wilson has coached in over 1,100 varsity games in football, girls basketball, and baseball. His 1996 his South Pittsburg team also won the State Championship in baseball. Coach Wilson was the principal at South Pittsburg High School from 2013-2017. Coach Wilson is a member of the Heritage High School Hall of Fame and the Blount County Sports Hall of Fame. Wilson and his wife Karen have been married for 34 years and have two children, Josh (29), wife Katie granddaughter Millie and Kelsea (26). The Wilson’s are members of the Church of Christ.
