Obituary: Mr. Paul Douglas “Doug” Ledbetter

 

Mr. Paul Douglas “Doug” Ledbetter, age 79, of Summerville, GA, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020, at his residence.

Mr. Ledbetter was born November 8, 1940, in Trion, GA, son of the late Marvin Elmer and Artell Crane Ledbetter. He was of the Methodist Faith and was a member of the Chickasawba Lodge # 134, F. & A.M. He served 27 years in the United States Air Force and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. While in the Air Force, he loved playing fast-pitch softball, golf, and bowling. He graduated from Lyerly High School in 1958 and was a star basketball player. He also enjoyed playing baseball during his high school years.

After he retired from the Air Force, he began working for the United States Postal Service in 1986 and retired from the Summerville Post Office in 1998. He was also the owner of Ledbetter Vinyl Siding for quite a few years. He loved playing golf with all his golfing buddies and loved to tell about all his adventures with them. He was a member of the Liar’s Table at Jim’s Restaurant and loved having breakfast with all of his buddies. He and his wife Patsy loved traveling and had traveled to many countries during his Air Force career and on vacations.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Ledbetter was preceded in death by his brothers, Elmer Gray Ledbetter, Windell Ledbetter, and Larry Ledbetter; and a sister, Patricia Ledbetter Bullington.

Mr. Ledbetter is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patsy Smith Ledbetter; a son, Doug Ledbetter, Jr.; daughter, Paula (Scott) Graves; brothers, Mickey Ledbetter, Stanley (Paula) Ledbetter, and Michael (Linda) Bennett; sisters, Carolyn Wyatt, Nancy Farley, Gayle Jeter, Carol (Gene) Andrews; 5 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Ledbetter will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 5, 2020, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Howell officiating. Interment will follow in Lyerly Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jason Ledbetter, Chris Ledbetter, Josh Ledbetter, Christopher Ledbetter, Tony Gayler, and Ralph Wright. Honorary pallbearers will be the guys from the Liar’s Table at Jim’s Restaurant, the Staff of Fresenius Dialysis Center, and the Staff of Harbin Cancer Center.

Mr. Ledbetter will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. Saturday, January 4, 2020.
