Chattooga County to Hold Property Tax Class Following This Year’s GMASS Assessments

Chattooga County will hold a public class on understanding property taxes following this year’s assessments conducted by GMASS, the same company behind a wave of appeals in 2023. That year, 3,223 taxpayers appealed their GMASS assessments, and of those, 380 won their appeals. The monetary difference totaled $17,158,566.

The goal of the class is to give citizens a clear understanding of how property taxes work at the local level, including assessments, appeals, exemptions, tax relief, tax bills, and how the county millage rate gets set.
