The Cartersville Police Department’s newly established Crime Suppression Unit made a significant drug seizure during a traffic stop on the evening of August 26, 2026, according to the department.
Officers with the unit were conducting proactive patrols when they observed a Honda SUV with an expired registration and initiated a traffic stop. During the stop, officers recognized the passenger, Jacobi Wilkey of Cartersville, as a known drug trafficker, police said.
While being questioned, Wilkey allegedly attempted to flee officers and was quickly apprehended. A search incident to his arrest turned up a trafficking amount of fentanyl and methamphetamine on his person, according to police.
Further investigation revealed that Wilkey had obtained the drugs in the metro Atlanta area with the intent to distribute them in the Cartersville area, police said.
According to statistics from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the amount of fentanyl recovered in the investigation had the potential to cause more than 8,000 overdose deaths.
The Cartersville Police Department said it remains vigilant in its efforts to curb the flow of illicit drugs into the city.
