Members of the Ogeechee Technical College National Technical Honor’s Society (NTHS) donated a large collection of items to Brown’s Health & Rehabilitation Center in Statesboro last month.
“Each semester the members of NTHS sponsor and participate in a community project,” said Lisa Lanier, co-advisor for NTHS. “We have a really great group of students this year and it is always a pleasure to help them organize ways to give back to their community.”
The spring service project to collect items to benefit residents at Brown’s Health & Rehab center was co-organized by Lanier and the students of NTHS. Paula Clifton, NTHS advisor, explained how volunteering can be a two-way street.
“Through volunteering, our NTHS members enrich their lives, familiarize themselves with their community, and connect to people and ideas that will positively impact their worldview. Dedicating time to help others also teaches patience, kindness, and resilience,” said Clifton.
Over the course of a few short weeks, students and OTC faculty and staff donated over 200 items including blankets, bedroom slippers, cream, books, and more. Donations were collected in mid-April and then delivered to Brown’s Health & Rehab at the end of the month.
