Portal Heritage Society’s annual fundraiser, the Turpentine Festival, is set to return this Saturday, October 29, after being canceled for the last two years. The festival was originally scheduled for the beginning of this month, but due to Hurricane Ian was rescheduled. The festival began 41 years ago to celebrate Portal’s rich turpentine industry history.
The parade will kick off the event at 10:00 am. Festivities include a variety of vendors, food, entertainment, rides, a cake walk, raffles, and more. Festival goers can view a demonstration of how the old still works and learn about the history of turpentine. The street dance, featuring The Southern Outlaw Band, will begin at 7:00 pm.
Due to insurance reasons, no pets are allowed, with the exception of service animals.
