Power poll: No changes in the rankings this week

Teams hold their ground in this week’s prep football power rankings

There aren’t any changes this week in the Southeast Georgia High School Football Power Poll.

There is still one game left to be played from last week’s schedule with that being the key Region 2-3A battle between Liberty County and Appling County. That game was pushed back until Monday night due to the weather threat by Hurricane Michael last week.

Both teams are ranked in the poll and their status could change based on the final result of their game. Any change in that regard will be reflected in next week’s power poll following all the games scheduled for this weekend, too.

So, here is a look at the rankings for this week:

  1. Wayne County (8-0, 2-0 Region 2-5A, ranked No. 8)

Last week: Won 49-12 vs. South Effingham

This week: at New Hampstead

The skinny: The Yellow Jackets kept rolling to a possible unbeaten season with an easy victory over South Effingham on Friday. This week, they play on the road against New Hampstead.

  1. Camden County (6-1, 0-0 Region 1-7A)

Last week: Off

This week: at Colquitt County

The skinny: The Wildcats were off last week as their game at Colquitt County was postponed by the weather threat from Hurricane Michael. They will visit Moultrie to take on the powerful Packers this Friday.

  1. Pierce County (7-0, 2-0 Region 2-3A)

Last week: Won 49-0 vs. Long County

This week: Home vs. Tattnall County

The skinny: The Bears posted their fifth shutout in seven games Friday in their win over the Blue Tide. This week, they host a Tattnall team coming off a victory over Brantley County.

  1. Ware County(5-2, 1-0 Region 2-5A, ranked No. 7)

Last week: Won 35-13 vs. Statesboro

This week: at South Effingham

The skinny: The Gators kicked off their region schedule with a solid victory over Statesboro at home. This week, they go on the road to play at South Effingham.

  1. Charlton County (5-2, 3-1 Region 2-A, ranked No. 6)

Last week: Won 35-28 over Wilcox County

This week: at Telfair County

The skinny: The Indians enjoyed a Homecoming win Saturday night over Wilcox. This week, they pay a visit to Telfair County in region action.

  1. Frederica Academy (6-2, 2-0 GISA Region 2-3A, ranked No. 7)

Last week: Won 58-15

This week: Off

The skinny: The Knights rolled to another victory Friday at home against Trinity Christian in GISA action. After six straight wins, the Knights are off this Friday before closing their season with two big games against John Milledge and Bulloch Academy.

  1. Liberty County (4-1, 1-0 Region 2-3A)

Last week: at Appling County (will be played today)

This week: Home vs. Long County

The skinny: The Panthers will play their postponed region game at Appling today and then will face a quick turnaround as they are still scheduled to play Long County on Friday.

  1. Glynn Academy (4-3, 1-0 Region 2-6A)

Last week: Won 28-3 vs. Richmond Hill

This week: at Brunswick

The skinny: The Red Terrors scored two defensive touchdowns and also got one after a blocked field goal as they clicked to a home win over Richmond Hill. This Friday, Glynn will be the visiting team in the annual City Championship Game against Brunswick.

  1. Richmond Hill (3-4, 1-1 Region 2-6A)

Last week: Lost 28-3 at Glynn Academy

This week: Home vs. Bradwell Institute

The skinny: The Wildcats had trouble moving the ball against Glynn and saw the Terrors return a pair of interceptions for touchdowns in their loss. They try to get back in the win column this week at home against Bradwell.

  1. Appling County(3-3, 1-0 Region 2-3A)

Last week: Home vs. Liberty County (will be played today)

This week: at Brantley County

The skinny: The Pirates will play their key league game today against Liberty and will then take on Brantley County as scheduled on Friday.
