New Poll Shows Abrams & Kemp ‘Tied,’ Libertarian Polling at 2%

With less than 60 days until Election Day and early voting just around the corner, the polls are rolling out, complete with analysis of what voters should expect on Election Day. The most recent poll released last week shows Republican Brian Kemp and Democrat Stacey Abrams in a dead heat.

The poll released Thursday shows Kemp at 45.3%, Abrams at 44.9% and Libertarian candidate Ted Metz at 2.1%. 7.6% of respondents said they were still undecided.

Political pundits have long said that the Election Day results will come down to turnout, which is seemingly affirmed by the WSB poll showing the majority of votes decided.

The AJC also reported the results with caution, citing Democrat contender Jason Carter, who challenged Governor Nathan Deal in 2014, polling ‘tied’ with Deal and ultimately lost by a larger margin.

The poll also gathered data on the approval rating of President Trump, who has endorsed Kemp in his bid for Governor which came alongside the Pence endorsement ahead of the GOP runoffback in July. Abrams has been endorsed by Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.

The poll of 1,020 likely voters was conducted Aug. 26 to Sept. 4 by the University of Georgia’s School of Public and International Affairs. The margin of error is 3.1 percentage points.
