Statesboro votes to implement Phase II of employee salary adjustments

The Statesboro City Council met Tuesday night to discuss a wide array of issues, one of which included the implementation of Phase II of the employee compensation plan.

During the 2016 fiscal year, the City of Statesboro hired Evergreen Solutions to conduct a pay study on city employee compensation. The City of Statesboro paid upwards of $30,000 for the study and recommendations the company suggested implementing over three phases and three fiscal years.

The council approved Phase I last fall and unanimously approved Phase II on Tuesday night. Phase III will be up for consideration during the 2018 fiscal year as council continues to level wages for recruiting and retention of city employees.

According to statements by City Manager Wetmore provided in the City Council packet, the city expects to pay the $65,000 without any issues based on the fact that budget revenues are exceeding projections and some city departments remain under budget for the fiscal year.
