Azul Restaurant Homicide Suspect Arrested in Statesboro

U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested homicide suspect Andrew White Tuesday on an outstanding warrant for the May 5 murder of Gregory Johnson Jr. at Azul restaurant. A woman accompanying Johnson was also shot during the incident, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.  Statesboro Police Department detectives identified White as the suspect and issued warrants for his arrest for charges of  Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Following a tip from the public, the U.S. Marshals Service assisted in locating and apprehending White at a Statesboro residence. The Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office also assisted.

From SPD: On August 25th, 2026, members of the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Andrew White, 22, of Statesboro, on an outstanding warrant for murder. The arrest took place at a Statesboro residence following a tip from the public.

Statesboro Police Department (SPD) detectives subsequently searched the residence and seized multiple items of evidence.

The investigation stems from an incident on May 5th, 2026, when Gregory Johnson Jr. was shot and killed during a gathering at the Azul Restaurant on South Main Street. A 31-year- old woman accompanying Johnson was also shot, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.

SPD detectives identified White as the suspect and issued warrants for Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. The warrants were transferred to the U.S. Marshals Service to assist in locating and apprehending the suspect. White’s arrest advances the case to the prosecution phase.

“We are grateful for the dedicated work of the U.S. Marshals and the assistance of the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office in bringing this suspect into custody,” the department said in a statement.
