Bulloch County Schools says new teachers receive support in multiple ways to help them succeed and grow as educators:
If you are interested in a career with Bulloch County Schools, attend the annual Employee Recruitment Fair on Saturday, February 4, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Statesboro High School. New this year, interested teachers and education professionals may apply before the fair to be considered for a formal interview during the Fair.
These are some of the supports for new and existing teachers:
Mentors: Each new teacher is assigned a mentor, an experienced teacher who can be a valuable guide and sounding board.
Coaches: The district has a team of instructional and school climate coaches who model best practices and help teachers and schools address areas of need.
New Teacher Induction Program: In 2015, Bulloch County Schools created a New Teacher Induction Program. Held in addition to the school district’s New Hire Orientation, it is a 10-session training led by the district’s team of instructional coaches.
New educators meet once per month throughout the school year. Session topics are created based on feedback from new teachers and their school-based mentors regarding the needs of new teachers.
“This allows the program to be flexible and responsive to the needs of each individual new teacher cohort,” said Ragan Adkins, a director of school improvement. Adkins and fellow School Improvement Director Millie Boykin lead the program.
In the New Teacher Induction Program, educators learn about the school district’s values, best practices for student learning, engaging instructional strategies, proper classroom management techniques, and positive behavior interventions.
Professional Learning Communities: The school district ensures all teachers have dedicated time to collaborate with their peers in professional learning communities.
Professional Development: All teachers are provided ongoing professional development opportunities.
Pursuit of Graduate Degrees: Having a local university, Georgia Southern, in Bulloch County is an asset for educators who want to pursue graduate degrees. Obtaining a master’s, specialist, or doctorate degree increases a teacher’s earning potential and may offer advancement opportunities in their career.
Aspiring Leaders Program: For educators who want to be considered for possible administrator positions, the school district offers an Aspiring Leaders program to help grow their leadership capacity.
Bulloch County Schools wants to attract and retain high quality professionals who share the district’s beliefs and values. The district is committed to developing the skills and leadership capacity of all employees. Learn more at Teach Bulloch.
