Floyd Medical Center has earned a ‘B’ grade for the second time in 2019.
The grade was announced this week as part of a biannual report card issued, in which FMC has previously scored grades of B, B, and C.
The healthcare report card is produced twice a year by The Leapfrog Group, an independent, national not-for-profit organization founded more than a decade ago by the nation’s leading employers and private health care experts. The Leapfrog Group advocates for public access to quality and safety data from all U.S. hospitals.

FMC scored ‘Above Average’ on the following items:
- Prevention of MRSA infections
- Prevention of C. diff infections
- Prevention of infections in the blood
- Preventing accidental cuts and tears
- Preventing dangerous objects left in patients after surgery
- Preventing dangerous blood clot
- Preventing serious breathing problems
- Preventing dangerous bed sores
- Preventing air/gas in the blood
- Effective leadership to prevent errors
- Enough qualified nurses
- Communication with nurses
- Responsiveness of hospital staff
- Safe administration of medication
- Doctors orders and medications through a computer
- Tracking and reducing risks to patients
FMC scored ‘Average’ on the following line items:
- Prevention of urinary tract infections
- Preventing patient injuries and falls
