Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced Wednesday the date of the special election required for the Griffin Judicial Circuit District Attorney, which became vacant due to the appointment of The Honorable Ben Coker to the Superior Court of the Griffin Judicial Circuit.
The special election will be held on February 9, 2020 for the circuit, which includes parts of Fayette, Pike, Spalding, and Upson Counties. A run-off, if needed, shall be held on March 9, 2021.
Qualifying for the Griffin Judicial Circuit District Attorney special election will be held at the in the Elections Division of the Office of Secretary of State, 2 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SE, West Tower Suite 802, Atlanta, Georgia 30334. The qualifying period will be on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m.; Thursday, December 17, 2020 beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m.; and Friday, December 18, 2020 beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 1:00 p.m. The qualifying fee shall be $3,674.20.
Monday, January 11, 2021 is the last day to register to vote for the special election. Advance in-person absentee voting will begin on Monday, January 18, 2021.
