Sen. Islam Parkes Introduces Legislation Related to Women’s Health

This week, Sen. Nabilah Islam Parkes introduced Senate Bill 372, which would make an exemption from sales and taxes for certain goods that are designed and customarily used for child-rearing, specifically those used from prenatal through age three.

Sen. Islam Parkes shared her enthusiasm about the legislation, saying, “I’m excited to introduce this bipartisan legislation to support Georgia families during the critical early years of child-rearing. By granting a tax exemption on essential child-rearing items, we aim to make it more affordable for parents and caregivers to provide for their infants and young children. This bill is of paramount importance to all Georgians, and we must work together across party lines to swiftly pass it and promote the well-being of our children and families.”

Sen. Derek Mallow (D-Savannah), one of the co-sponsors of the bill, added his thoughts on SB 372, “By granting a tax exemption for the sale or use of equipment, furniture, clothing, vitamins, bedding and other essential goods for children under the age of three, we are better setting Georgia’s parents and children up for a successful life. I commend Sen. Islam Parkes for authoring this necessary piece of legislation, and I look forward to seeing its passage through the General Assembly.”
