A face familiar to the 12th Congressional district will soon be making the rounds across Georgia in a campaign for Georgia’s Secretary of State.
Former Congressman John Barrow announced his intentions to seek the Democratic bid for the seat, currently held by Brian Kemp, in 2018. Kemp, a Republican, is currently running for Governor.
Barrow said he refuses to “stand on the sidelines when we face such huge challenges” and “vowed to protect the right to vote, cut regulations and crack down on fraud,” according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.
Barrow, who was the last white Democrat in the deep south, was defeated by Rick Allen in 2014. Soon after, Barrow moved to Athens, Ga, where he’s been teaching at the University of Georgia since 2015.
