Georgia DOT awards $195 million in construction contracts in April 2023

In April 2023, the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) awarded 16 projects valued at approximately $195,428,193.94.

The single largest investment is worth approximately $65 million and will widen and reconstruct 1.28 miles of US 80/SR 26 (Ogeechee Road) from I-516/SR 421 to Victory Drive (CS 188) in Echols County. This project also includes as the construction of a bridge and approaches over CSX railroad. This contract, along with three other reconstruction projects, represents 61% of the awarded funds.

Bridge Construction projects represent 32% of the awarded funds and include construction of five bridges: one on J Frank Culpepper Road (CR96 over Enoch Creek in Echols County; one on US 441 BUS/SR385 over Hazel Creek in Habersham County, one on Tucker Road over Polecat Creek in Troup County, one on US 41/SR 3 over SR 293 and CSX railroad in Bartow County; and one on SR 10 Loop over Middle Oconee River.

Two Resurfacing projects represent 7%, or approximately $10.6 million, of the awarded funds. The projects include 7.5 miles of milling, inlay and plant mix resurfacing on US 27/ SR 1 from North of Fernwood Drive to the Heard County line in Troup County, and 6.5 miles of milling, inlay and plant mix resurfacing and shoulder rehabilitation on SR 12 from SR 12 bypass to the McDuffie County line in Warren County.

Two percent, or approximately $2.3 million, of the awarded funds, were for safety projects including signing and pavement marking upgrades in 29 counties and pedestrian crossing upgrades along part of Beaver Ruin Road in Gwinnett County.

The remaining 1% is allotted for a bridge rehabilitation project including painting, bridge deck overlay and joint replacements on two bridges along I-20 and six bridges over I-16 in Columbia, Laurens and Treutlen counties.

The April awards bring the total construction contracts for Fiscal Year 2023 to $1.66 billion. This total includes TIA, Design-Bid-Build, and locally administered projects. Fiscal Year 2023 began July 1, 2022.
