GA Dept of Driver Services Eliminates Counter Service Appointments

Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) has returned to a no appointment necessary system for most services consistent with pre-pandemic procedures.  Counter service appointments for renewals, reinstatements, replacements and all other services were a necessary Covid-19 safety procedure which was eliminated on April 12, 2021.

Customers not needing a road test will be served on a first in, first out basis.  Before visiting, customers are encouraged to complete and submit the necessary paperwork to DDS at DDS Online Services. The information will be securely saved at DDS for 60 days.

Road test appointments remain required for vehicle, motorcycle and commercial driver road testing.  Appointments can be made at the DDS website link Appointments or by downloading the free mobile app DDS 2 GO.

Commissioner Spencer Moore says, “DDS is constantly analyzing our procedures to be sure we are serving the maximum number of customers as safely and efficiently as possible.  It is possible to adjust the initial COVID-19 mostly appointment policy now to allow more customers inside to wait. However, we support customers  wearing masks when visiting in person consistent with public health recommendations”

As essential workers, DDS remained open throughout the pandemic and only closed the customer facing centers for nine days to allow the Agency to devise a plan where the staff and customers could interact safely and efficiently.  Since the Emergency Declaration in Georgia, DDS has served over 3,350,000 (three million three hundred fifty thousand) customers safely face to face.

In addition, DDS has processed hundreds of thousands of online and DDS 2GO mobile app transactions since the emergency declaration.  This continues to be the most efficient and safest way to take care of any licensing needs.
