The Division of Family & Children Services recently named Kevin Harris as interim Legislative Director Legislative Affairs and Communications.
Mr. Harris joined DFCS as the Legislative Affairs Director in December 2019, after seven years with the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, where his most recent role was Deputy Executive Director. He was also the agency’s previous Chief External Affairs Officer, overseeing legislative relations, communications, marketing, constituent services and benefits navigation. Under Kevin’s leadership, GVRA expanded the services it offers, established strong legislative and board relationships and developed strategic marketing and communications plans to strengthen statewide outreach.
Kevin brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this position. Prior to his time in state government, Kevin developed an extensive network while working in a number of leadership roles for candidates, elected officials and campaigns. He also spent 17 years teaching at Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, GA. Kevin is a proud double Dawg, with both a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Georgia and an Associate of Arts degree from Young Harris College. In 2018, he completed the Certified Public Manager program through the UGA Carl Vinson Institute of Government. Mr. Harris resides in Mineral Bluff, Georgia with his wife and family.
In his new capacity, he looks forward to working with the leadership team to identify opportunities to identify collaborative opportunities with legislators and media outlets across the state. His immediate task will be to strengthen the formal and informal channels of communication among DFCS staff as well as the partners, stakeholders and legislators to improve the safety and well-being of the children and families we serve.
