21-Year-Old Georgia Man Arrested for “Mass Casualty” Plot Against White House, DC

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says a Georgia man was planning a ‘mass casualty’ event against the White House and other locations in D.C. and has since been arrested.

The office made the announcement Wednesday on the steps of the Richard B. Russell Federal Building in Atlanta.

According to U.S. Attorney B.Jay Pak, law enforcement officials arrested Hasher Taheb, a 21-year-old living in Cumming, Ga, after a year-long investigation by the Atlanta Joint Terrorism Task Force, which includes the FBI.

Reportedly, Taheb planned to use explosive devices and an anti-tank rocket to carry out his attack. Law enforcement officials only learned of the plan after a tip from someone in the community was reported. Taheb is believed to have been acting along. “All potential threats have been neutralized,” Pak said.

Taheb has been charged with violating Title 18USC 844(f)(1), an “attempt to damage by means of an explosive any building owned, possessed, or leased by the United States or any department or agency thereof, or any institution or organization receiving federal financial assistance.”

Officials say there is not, and was not, any threat against Georgia or the upcoming Super Bowl.
