Several Georgia Winn-Dixie stores will be closing soon. Owned by Southeastern Grocers, the company revealed bankruptcy plans yesterday. Hopeful to reduce debt, 94 Winn-Dixie stores will be shutting down nationally, with 19 of those being within Georiga. Locally, a Winn-Dixie in Waycross is the only one on the chopping block.
In a press release, company president and chief executive officer, Anthony Hucker, shared the following: “This course of action enables us to continue writing the story for our company and our iconic, heritage banners in the Southeast.”
The release went on to explain that due to some restructuring, the remaining 582 stores will remain open. The closing of stores is slated to be finished within 90 days.
