Three Rivers gains in June

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that the Three Rivers region gained employed residents during June.

Preliminary results showed the 10-county area also posted an increase in labor force as well.

“Georgia’s been in an extended growth cycle,” said Butler. “In June, our state and local communities added jobs and employed more people.”

Nationally, the unemployment rate inched up 0.1 percent points in June to reach 3.7 percent. Georgia’s rate dropped 0.1 percentage points to settle at 3.7 percent.

In Three Rivers, the unemployment rate increased in June by 0.5 percentage points, settling at 3.9 percent. A year ago, the rate was 4.3 percent.

The labor force went up in June by 1,394. The June total was 248,422. That number is up by 111 from the total from June 2018.

The Three Rivers region ended June with 238,821 employed residents.  The number increased by 215 in June and went up by 1,135 as compared to last June.

The number of unemployment claims rose in June by about 31 percent. When compared to last June, claims were down by about 20 percent.

The Three Rivers area includes Butts, Carroll, Coweta, Heard, Lamar, Meriwether, Pike, Spalding, Troup, and Upson counties.
