Wrestler of the Week: Gavin Carlton – Chattooga Wrestler

On February 3rd, Chattooga Wrestlers competed in the Area Individuals at Trion High School.

AllOnGeorgia is proud to spotlight Gavin Carlton for his exceptional performance, clinching the top spot in his Traditional Area match.

Gavin, a junior at Chattooga, boasts an impressive season record of 35-4, showcasing his dedication and skill on the wrestling mat. Head Coach Andy Stivers commended Gavin’s leadership qualities, emphasizing his strong team leader and outstanding program representative role.

“Gavin is a great kid and comes from a good family. They are a good wrestling family,” Stivers said. “He is a strong team leader and a very good representative of the program. I am very glad to have him back for one more year after this year.”

In an interview with Gavin, we gained insight into his wrestling journey and aspirations beyond high school:

1. Wrestling Experience: Gavin has been wrestling for an impressive 12 years, a testament to his passion and commitment to the sport.
2. Favorite Team/Athlete: Gavin’s favorite team is Penn State, while his favorite wrestler is Jordan Burroughs.
3. Role Model: Gavin said his Dad was his role model “because he got me into wrestling.”
4. Future Plans: Post-high school, Gavin intends to pursue college wrestling while also aiming to earn his electrician certification.

Gavin’s dedication to wrestling extends beyond the mat. He assists in coaching the Chattooga Indians youth wrestling program, underscoring his commitment to nurturing the next generation of wrestlers.

In reflecting on his wrestling journey, Gavin enjoys the camaraderie and memories made during bus rides to and from tournaments.

His favorite wrestling move is the double arm bar.

Gavin said the most important thing he’s learned from his coach is that once you’ve wrestled, everything else is easy in life.

His goal this season is to become a state champion.

He loves listening to music before matches, and his favorite wrestling memories are the times he gets to wrestle with his brothers.

The best advice he has ever received? “Do what you are afraid to do. Life can be downright scary.”

Favorite food: Mexican

Gavin said if given a billboard that everyone could see, he would put a picture of the whole wrestling team on it.

With a GPA of 3.5 GPA, Gavin Carlton exemplifies excellence both on and off the wrestling mat. His determination, leadership, and unwavering commitment make him a true asset to the Chattooga wrestling community.

He is the son of Brandon and Christian Carlton.
