Trion Football Preview: Toby Maddux

AllOnGeorgia will be previewing a few players and coaches ahead of high school football season. This spotlight article is on Trion Football’s Toby Maddux.

Name: Toby Maddux
Age: 18
Grade: 12th
Position: Running Back/ Defensive Back
Height: 5’11
Weight: 185

Maddux was a 1st team All-State, 1st team All-Area, and 1st team All-Region player for the 2022 season. Maddux also received the title of 1st team All-Region during the 2021 and 2020 seasons.

How has your training and preparation been going during the off-season?

My training this off-season has gone very well. I attended camps at Wofford and UGA.

 

What improvements have you personally made in your skills since last season?

I have trained a lot on being more explosive and getting stronger this off-season.

 

Which players are standing out as potential impact players for the upcoming season?

Everyone looks good. We have a lot of guys on our team this year that can make some really big plays. We had a lot of our offense return.

How do you feel the team’s chemistry and camaraderie is shaping up this year?

Our chemistry is really good this year. We are all like brothers on the team so it helps us understand each other better.

What are the team’s primary goals and objectives for this season?

Our primary goal is to be the first region champs at Trion within the last 20 years.

 

How has the coaching staff been working to develop and refine team strategies?

Our coaches have been working really hard and putting in a lot of hours so that we can be to the best to our abilities this year.

 

What is the best thing about your teammates?

The best thing about my teammates is how we are all truly a family and will each help each through everything.

 

Which games are you most looking forward to this season, and why?

I’m looking most forward to the Darlington game. More than likely this game will be for a region championship and would mean a lot to the team to win.

 

Are there any specific rivalries that add extra motivation for the team?

Gordon Lee is a big rival game every year, not just for us but our community, so that adds a little motivation.

 

How are you personally preparing for the leadership role on the team, and what do you hope to achieve this season?

I’m preparing by attending leadership meetings that our team has and working on being more vocal. I want to be the best to my ability so that our team can have the most success as possible.
