In a dominant display of power and determination, the Chattooga Indians shut out Coahulla Creek 28-0, marking their second consecutive shutout victory.
Offense: The Indians’ ground game was unstoppable, amassing 319 rushing yards on 34 carries. Leading the charge was Zayden Cook, who delivered a record-setting performance with 22 carries for 307 yards and four touchdowns.
Cook set two records in the game: the most rushing yards in a single game, 307, and the longest touchdown run, 99 yards. Jimmy Lenderman (1969) had the previous record of 305 yards rushing in a single game, and Michael Covington (2000) had the previous record for the longest touchdown run, 98 yards.
The passing game was efficient. The team completed 6-of-8 passes for 23 yards, bringing the total offense to 342 yards.
Defense: Chattooga’s defense continues to impress, holding Coahulla Creek to just 158 yards of total offense. The Indians allowed 99 yards through the air on 14-of-28 passing, limiting the run game to 59 yards on 26 attempts.
Matthew Bryant led the defensive effort with 11 total tackles and a forced fumble.
Zayden Cook: 8 total tackles
Corde Hill: 8 total tackles
Kadin Fife: 7 total tackles, 2 tackles for loss
Stanton Peppers: 6 total tackles, 2 sacks

A crucial moment came in the third quarter when Quarry Gibson made a game-changing interception on the 4-yard line, halting a Coahulla Creek drive. Although his 96-yard return for a touchdown was called back due to a penalty, the Indians capitalized just three plays later. On a critical third-and-12 from their own 1-yard line, Zayden Cook broke loose for a 99-yard touchdown run, sealing the victory for Chattooga and running into the history books.
“Coahulla Creek made life tough for us offensively during the first half. They play a very aggressive 3-4 style defense and blitz, slant, and attack from all over the field. Even though we practiced it all week, we didn’t handle it well at times during the first half. On offense, Coahulla ball controlled the time of possession with a short passing game and a few key first downs on their part. We couldn’t get our offense on the field as much as we would like. That, along with some bad penalties on our part that we had to clean up, limited our opportunities in the first half. Thank goodness are defense played well again and kept us in the game,” Chattooga Head Coach Roone Gable said. “We really challenged our team at halftime, and they responded the way a good team does. Our offense line cleaned up some mistakes and really took control of the game in the 2nd half. And defensively, we keep getting better and better. We played much more physical and got a couple of turnovers which were huge. I cannot stress enough how proud I am of our team. We preach one game at a time and they are learning how to practice in a way that winning teams do. I want to give a huge shout out to our student section, our cheerleaders, our band, and our fans. It was very loud and created a great atmosphere for our team and everyone here!!!!! Thank you for your support!!!! Let’s keep it rolling. Go Big Red!!!!!”
The Indians are off this week and will host Mount Zion for homecoming Friday, September 6th.
