The 10/11 year old Summerville Indians won another Super Bowl for the North Georgia Youth Football league behind the leadership of head coach and living football legend, Terry Money. With almost 50 years of coaching football under his belt, Coach Money knows the formula for winning championships and his 2015 team was right on track behind standouts Devon Heroch and LeShawn Lester.
While the defense couldn’t find a solution for the East Catoosa tailback, they did keep the Silver Crusaders out of the endzone for the most part of the game. The Indians allowed 2 TD’s until the final play of the game when the score was well in hand. The 41 points scored by Lester and Heroch were more than enough to put the game safely away. Lester was an unstoppable force with 15 carries for a mind-blowing 251 yards and 5 TD’s. Averaging 16 yards per carry, Lester had scoring runs of 4, 61, 5, 27 and 73 yards while Heroch punished the Crusader defense with another 12 carries and 67 yards including a 9 yard TD run of his own.
Lester and Heroch have played together over the years for a powerful offensive combination and this season was no different as the Indians rebounded from an 0-2 start (including an unofficial scrimmage at Dalton) to remain undefeated for the rest of the year. Assistant coach Dee Mosteller pointed out the slow start saying, “…that didn’t stop us from achieving our goals…”
Lester picked up his 4th Super Bowl MVP award (Heroch has also been named a Super Bowl MVP) as this standout group of players who have played mostly together since their 5/6 year old season are poised to head to the middle school ranks next season.
