Chattooga Kickoff Countdown: What to Expect This Football Season

Villeda Concrete

The Chattooga Indians are back and ready to bring the heat to Little Big Horn Stadium this season!

Now entering his third year as head coach, Roone Gable is focused and optimistic about the road ahead.

“Our expectations don’t change,” Gable said. “Our goal is to compete for a Region Championship every year. It’s our job as coaches to maximize the talent on our team and compete at a high level every Friday night—and our players have bought into that mindset. They’ve worked hard all offseason and summer. They’re ready to go. I’m especially proud of our seniors for stepping up as leaders, pushing one another, and holding each other accountable. We’re excited to get the season started.”

The 2025 season brings several major changes to the Indians’ program, including the addition of new coaches and a revamped offensive strategy.

“We’ve changed our offensive system this offseason,” Gable explained. “We were blessed to have Zayden Cook the past few seasons, but now we have to replace the state’s leading rusher. To keep defenses guessing, we’ve transitioned to a more balanced attack and will be running the Wing-T with three running backs at all times.”

To help lead this transformation, the Indians welcomed Coach Justin Brown, who brings over 25 years of Wing-T experience and will serve as the offensive coordinator. “His play style fits perfectly with the physical brand of football we want to play here,” Gable said. “It’s been a great fit, and the players have really embraced the system and made huge strides since spring.”

The coaching staff has also grown in other key areas:

  • Coach Garrett Brown, the new girls’ basketball coach, joins the football staff with 20+ years of football coaching experience.
  • Coach Jackson Walters, a former player under Coach Brown, will coach the offensive line and brings valuable experience with the Wing-T offense.
  • Coach Jackson Moore, a Shorter University alum, steps in to coach inside linebackers.
  • Coach Tequarius Gibson, a 2025 CHS graduate and former Indian standout, returns as a community coach.

Returning staff members include Coach Scott Chandler, Coach Kevin Queen, and Coach Bradley Ward on defense, with Coach Danny Wilson and Coach Paul Ellis continuing to lead on offense.

Before the regular season begins, the Indians will host a home scrimmage against Sonoraville this Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Little Big Horn Stadium.

Come out and show your support—the Tribe is ready to rise!
