In a statement win, the Chattooga Indians kicked off their season with an impressive 30-0 victory over rival LaFayette, marking their first 1-0 start and shutout since 2019. Despite weather delays resulting in the game ending in the 3rd quarter, Head Coach Roone Gable’s squad showcased discipline, intensity, and physicality from start to finish.
“Every time we hit the field, we played with intensity and very physical. I am so proud,” Coach Gable said.
“Our team played so well as a unit,” Coach Gable praised. “We were very balanced across the board on tackles, and I’m extremely proud of how our coaches prepared the team.”
Defensively, the Indians were relentless, holding LaFayette to just 72 yards of total offense. Zayden Cook led the defense with seven total tackles, while six other Indians recorded five tackles each. The defensive unit forced two fumbles, recorded two sacks, and blocked two field goals, executing the game plan drawn up by Defensive Coordinator Coach Chandler to perfection.
“Our defense coaches had a great plan, and our players delivered,” Gable added.
On the offensive side, Chattooga dominated the ground game, rushing for 309 yards in less than three quarters.
Zayden Cook was the standout performer, racking up 204 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries.
Quarry Gibson added 93 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Gibson was also 1-3 passing with a 46-yard completion.
“Our offensive line did a great job, averaging over 8.5 yards per carry,” Gable noted. “Coach Powell and Coach Wilson have worked our guys hard, and it showed tonight.”
Despite multiple weather delays, the Indians remained focused and determined, embodying their coach’s mantra to “control what we can control” and “weather the storm.”
Up Next: “Coahulla Creek will come into Friday ready to play. They are a very well-coached team. Coach Carter and his staff do a good job. We had a nail-biter with them last year. We were fortunate to win 17-14 on a last-second FG. But our kids will be ready, too. We preach taking it one game at a time, and our players set a goal to go 2-0, so we are excited and look forward to Friday night,” Gable said.
