Thursday, September 30, students at Summerville Middle School recognized community first responders, military, and medical personnel in honor of their month-long commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks.
At the beginning of the month, students across the school read the book 30,000 Stitches by Amanda Davis, which recounts the story of the National 9-11 Flag.
Students then reflected upon what community means to them and wrote reflections on small cards that were assembled, pieced together, like the National 9-11 Flag. The completed student flag is assembled in the Student Commons Area of the school and served as the backdrop for today’s ceremony.
