The Joy of the Journey: Being Kingdom-Minded

It will never be about a denomination, church, pastor, or individual. We were called to lift up Jesus’s name and expand His Word and kingdom on earth. It should be our desire to be Kingdom-minded servants of Jesus. Expanding the Kingdom of God should be our sole purpose.

The Kingdom of God is at the center of the teachings of Jesus. In Matthew 4:17, Jesus begins His ministry by proclaiming, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” This declaration invites us to turn away from our self-centered ways and embrace a life that reflects God’s reign. The Kingdom is not merely a future hope but a present reality that we are called to be a part of and participate in.  Matthew 6:33, Jesus instructs us, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” This verse emphasizes the priority of the Kingdom in our lives. When we seek God’s Kingdom first, we align our desires with His will, allowing us to experience His provision and guidance.  When we allow the Kingdom of God to be first in our lives, we seek His will and His presence.  This allows everything else to fall in line with His plan for our lives.

Being Kingdom-minded involves recognizing our identity as citizens of God’s Kingdom. Philippians 3:20 reminds us, “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” This heavenly citizenship should shape our values, ethics, and interactions with the world around us. As citizens of the Kingdom, we are called to reflect the character of Christ in our daily lives.  In Matthew 5:14-16, Jesus calls His followers the “light of the world” and instructs us to let our light shine before others. This means that our actions should point others to God’s glory. By living out the values of the Kingdom—love, justice, mercy, and humility—we become trueambassadors of Christ, demonstrating the transformative power of the good news.

The call to expand the Kingdom of God is encapsulated in the Great Commission found in Matthew 28:19-20: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” This command is not just for a select few; it is a mandate for all believers.

We are all called to expand the Kingdom. This involves sharing the Gospel and making disciples. Acts 1:8 reinforces this mission: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” The Holy Spirit empowers us to be witnesses, enabling us to share the love of Christ in our communities and beyond.

Being kingdom-minded is essential for every believer. It requires a shift in focus from our personal ambitions to God’s greater purpose. As we seek the Kingdom of God and fulfill the Great Commission, we participate in expanding God’s Kingdom on Earth.

It will never be about a denomination, church, pastor, or individual. We were called to lift up Jesus’s name and expand His Word and kingdom on earth. It should be our desire to be Kingdom-minded servants of Jesus.  Expanding the Kingdom of God should be our sole purpose.
