Trevor Burdick, 2x All-American

From the moment Trevor Burdick stepped on the wrestling mat it was obvious the kid was special, even at six years of age.

Burdick would win nine consecutive Team Georgia Championships and go on to win four GHSA State Championships in the AAA Division for Sonoraville High School from 2016 through 2019.

In 13 years and 47 matches, Burdick never lost a single match in a Georgia State Championship Tournament, becoming one of the state’s winningest grapplers of all time.

Last year, as a member of the Reinhardt University Wrestling team, Burdick became the first collegiate athlete from Chattooga County to earn the rank of All-American.

… and this year, his senior season, he achieved the coveted status again, making him the first two time All-American in Chattooga County history.

The NAIA Nationals tournament was held March 3rd and 4th in Wichita, Kansas.

At Nationals, wrestlers who win in the first round, second and third round automatically earn All-American honors, the distinction given to the top eight performers in the tournament. Burdick took 8th at the tournament.

“Trevor is very coachable and he is a very gritty competitor. The guy loves a challenge, and he is a gamer,” Reinhardt Wrestling head coach Jeff Bedard said.

Sonoraville Wrestling Coach Randy Steward said he was indescribably proud of Trevor, “I’m fortunate to have had the pleasure of coaching him, he was a leader in our program and the impact he left is still being felt today.”

Burdick is also the first Sonoraville All-American and in addition to his individual GHSA state championships he helped lead the Phoenix to two team championships.

While his senior season at Reinhardt is officially in the books with the completion of the Nationals tournament, Burdick does have one year of eligibility left.

As it stands, Trevor Burdick holds nine state titles as a member of Team Georgia wrestling, is a four-time GHSA State Champion, and a two-time collegiate All American. Whether or not he ever puts a singlet on again he has left his mark on wrestling.

He is the son of Vickie and Jake Burdick.
