LIVERPOOL, Great Britain (November 6, 2022) – On the final day of the 51st Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, Brody Malone became the first U.S. gymnast in more than 40 years to capture horizontal bar gold.

On high bar, Malone’s (Aragon, Ga./Stanford University) 14.800 bested reigning Olympic horizontal bar champion Daiki Hashimoto of Japan (14.700) by a tenth of a point, making him the first American gymnast to capture the apparatus title since Kurt Thomas in 1979. Brazil’s Arthur Mariano (14.466) was third.
