Two Found Deceased Across from Chattooga High School; Investigation Underway

The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the deaths of two individuals who were found deceased inside a residence directly across from Chattooga High School on Highway 114.

According to Sheriff Mark Schrader, deputies were dispatched just before 7 p.m. on Monday evening to perform a welfare check after neighbors reported that they had not seen any activity at the home for approximately three weeks. Upon arrival, Summerville Fire Chief Trey Skelton and members of the Summerville Fire Department assisted law enforcement with gaining entry into the residence.

Inside, deputies and emergency personnel discovered two deceased individuals. Preliminary findings appear to corroborate the neighbors’ account of the timeline, indicating the residence had likely been unoccupied for several weeks.

The investigation is being conducted jointly by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office and Chattooga County Coroner McElhaney.

The bodies have been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies.

Sheriff Schrader expressed his gratitude for the assistance provided by the Summerville Fire Department and Atrium Health Floyd EMS, describing their support as “immeasurable.”

At this time, no additional information has been released regarding the identities of the deceased or the cause of death. Authorities stated that more details will be made available as the investigation progresses.
