Due to renewed interest and inaccurate information being spread in the community about a proposed affordable workforce housing development, a town hall meeting on the Gateway at Rossville project will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 13 at the Walker County Civic Center, 10052 Highway 27 in Rock Spring.
Walker County Board of Commissioners Chairman Shannon Whitfield invites the public to learn firsthand about this development from Josh Mandell, President/Chief Operating Officer at The Gateway Companies.
The Gateway Companies proposes to build a 156-unit family apartment complex on property currently owned by the Marion Hutcheson Estate on Happy Valley Road. The development would consist of multiple three-story buildings to include 18 one-bedroom units, 90 two-bedroom units and 48 three-bedroom units. In addition, there would be a covered pavilion, playground, computer center, exercise room, swimming pool and dog park onsite.
The development will have set rental rates that are structured to be affordable for households in the $26,055 to $47,100 income range. Gateway anticipates those rates will be $760 for a one-bedroom, $910 for a two-bedroom and $1,050 for a three-bedroom unit. Credit and criminal background checks will be performed on all prospective tenants.
Gateway currently manages over 14,000 multifamily housing units across seven states, including Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama.
