Tooga Gets Fox Grant

Chattooga County has been selected to receive a Fox Theatre Institute Preservation Grant of $22,600 towards facade renovations on the Tooga Theater.

The plans are to install the marquee, which was contracted in 2020, and to replace windows, refurbish the doors, and repaint the front brick facade.

This is the first year the FTI Preservation Grant requires no cash match, and the process was extremely competitive.

The Fox Theatre, itself, was not able to generate funds, having been closed for seventeen months due to the pandemic.

County Commissioner Blake Elsberry stated, “I would like to personally thank Chamber of Commerce Director Cindy McGraw for all her hard work on working with me on getting this funding. I would also like to thank the Fox Theater Institute for their continued support of our states historic theaters. It is great partnerships like these that get things done for our community.”

Work on the Tooga should start soon.
