Berry College will host Olympic gymnast and Rockmart native Brody Malone for the Cecil B. Wright III Integrity in Leadership Lecture on March 3.
Malone, a bronze medalist and two-time world champion, will speak at 6 p.m. in the Krannert Center ballroom. “More Than a Medal: Character, Calling, and a Life of Purpose” is free and open to the public.
A U.S. all-around champion and a mainstay of the U.S. men’s gymnastics team since 2020, Malone has established himself as a standout in his sport through extraordinary talent, perseverance and leadership both on and off the competition floor.
After sustaining a severe knee injury in 2023 that required multiple surgeries, Malone made a remarkable comeback that captured the attention of the gymnastics world and sports fans worldwide. Drawing on his faith and determination, he returned to elite competition, demonstrating the character and leadership the Wright Lecture Series was created to celebrate.
For the first time since 2008, the American flag was raised in 2024 during the medal ceremony for the men’s gymnastics team competition. Paul Juda, Frederick Richard, Asher Hong, Stephen Nedoroscik and Malone secured bronze, breaking a 16-year medal drought for Team USA.
In addition to vault, rings and high bar, Malone’s hobbies include hunting, fishing and rodeo.
The Cecil B. Wright III Integrity in Leadership Lecture series brings distinguished leaders to Berry to share their experiences and insights with students, faculty and the community. The annual event honors the legacy of Wright and his commitment to ethical leadership.
