Rome, GA – Helping Hands Ending Hunger (HHEH) has received $2,000 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help feed neighbors in their time of need. HHEH used the gift to purchase turkey and hams along with other nutritious food for the holidays for participating families at local school chapters operating in the Rome City and Floyd County Schools District.
“We were ecstatic to receive this gift from Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation. It’s been a tough year for too many families and their struggles continue. But, thanks to this grant, more than 100 food insecure students from Anna K Davie Elementary, West End Elementary, East Central Elementary and Coosa Middle were able to take home boxes filled with delicious meals for their families over the winter break, making their year-end especially bright,” reflected Carla Harward, CEO of HHEH.
The grant will also be used to support ongoing outreach to area school chapters by HHEH through spring 2022. Insulated bags will be purchased to send home cold storage food collected from school meals and donated by the community, which is the signature of HHEH’s model. “Our students love getting their weekly food bags filled with healthy foods for their families to eat over the weekends and breaks. More insulated bags will ensure we can serve more children who need food and end the current school year on a high note as we continue our work to ensure NO child is hungry,” Harward commented.
The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $15 million in grants.
