Sole Commissioner Andy Allen Releases Statement on Property Assessments

Chattooga County Residents,

Over the past few days, many residents have received their yearly property assessments. Like many of you, I also received mine, and I recognize that some properties experienced noticeable increases this year.

It’s important to remember that assessment values are only one part of the overall tax equation. These values help determine the portion of the millage rate each property owner pays. A higher assessment does not automatically mean a higher tax bill, and in many cases the final tax impact may be smaller than expected once millage decisions are made.

At this point, more information is needed before evaluating the overall uniformity of the digest. However, I want to assure everyone that the appropriate offices are actively reviewing the digest to help ensure fairness and accuracy throughout the process.

I appreciate your patience and understanding while each department involved takes the time necessary to conduct the annual review.

Sincerely,

Andy Allen
Sole Commissioner, Chattooga County
