At Chattooga County Republican Party’s May meeting, treasurer, David Duke, proposed a resolution clearly stating how the local republican party feels about taxation. The resolution passed.
The resolution reads:
Whereas, the Chattooga County Republican Party is concerned and has a heart for the welfare of all citizens of Chattooga County.
Whereas, the Chattooga County Republican Party has traditionally supported integrity, transparency and accountability in government, and:
Whereas, the Chattooga County Republican Party believes that increased taxes adversely effect all Chattooga County citizens and hurts medium to low income individuals the most, and:
Whereas, the Chattooga County Republican Party believes that increased taxes hurt existing small businesses and significantly deters businesses from relocating to Chattooga County.
Whereas, the Chattooga County Republican Party understands that historically any increase in sales taxes only results in a minor and temporary decrease in property taxes.
Therefore, for the good of the citizens of Chattooga County, the Chattooga County Republican Party opposes increased property taxes and any sales tax increase.
