The Statesboro Police Department is now accepting applications for this year’s Citizens Police Academy, which will be September 28 – November 2.
The free program consists of a class each Wednesday evening, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., for 6 weeks.
The classes cover topics such as patrol, traffic, use of force, investigation, impact team, building clearing, ride alongs, and the department’s K9 and SWAT teams. The presentations are slide show/lecture style and will be given by SPD officers and detectives. There will also be multiple opportunities for hands-on learning through equipment demonstrations and practical scenarios.
Applications are available at SPD, located at 25 West Grady Street, online here, and attached below. The deadline to turn in a completed application is September 20. Seats are limited, and are available on a first come, first serve basis.
The department encourages all applicants to be able to commit to the full 6 weeks to get the most out of the program. Graduates of the Citizens Police Academy are eligible to join the Alumni Association for continued learning opportunities and involvement with the Statesboro Police Department.
Anyone with questions is asked to contact CIS Sara Sutton at 912-212-2356 or by email at sara.sutton@statesboroga.gov.
